Rays Power Infra To Build VRFB Storage For NTPC By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Mon, Sep 30th, 2024 In a key milestone for flow batteries in India, Rays power Infra has secured an order for the 600KW / 3000KWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery system from NTPC Limited . NTPC had issued the tender for the storage system back in June this year, to meet the power needs of NTPC Technology Research Alliance (NETRA). This first of a kind project is a key step in pushing the case for long duration energy storage technology in India. Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries or VRFB are considered a crucial piece of the puzzle to ensure grid stability and provide long duration storage safely in an increasingly renewable heavy grid. For Rays Power Infra, the win marks a key opportunity to build strong credentials in storage solutions, especially the VRFB space where its still early days in India and even globally. Rays Power has built a strong solar business with a portfolio size of 1.3 GW, and over 200 MW of open access projects. The firm has a well spread out solar portfolio domestically in India, with projects across Assam, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu etc. The firm is one of the few ones from India to venture outside the country with a 50 MW solar project in Vietnam, besides its 275 MW project in Bangladesh. The move into energy storage, to that extent, is a natural extension of the direction of the solar market, which is moving more and more towards RTC, FDRE or solar plus storage based solutions.
