Delhi based solar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, Rays power Infra has ventured into the retail sector of the solar market after being a well-off entity in its B2B segment commissioning projects amounting to 650 MW. The government’s initiative to subsidize rooftop solar installations and encourage the use of renewable energy, especially in the residential and domestic sector, has enabled the firm to step into the retail segment through its group company, Rays Future Energy. The company plans to launch around 10 operational stores in the first year of its operations, and expand to over 70 stores by 2020 covering major cities in India. The solar development firm will commence its first outlet in Gurgaon by the end of November 2018.Through a franchise business model, various solar-powered products will be sold to customers. The initial product offering will be standardized solar solutions for the retail customers, including homeowners and small-scale commercial establishments. Rays Solar Experience Centers will also be set up that will provide high-quality plug-n-play, easy to install solar power packs for residential rooftops. Commenting on the milestone, CEO, Rays Future Energy, Rahul Mishra said, “The distributed (rooftop) solar business in India is yet to witness the growth it has promised. The sector needs organized private participation from large players to provide quality energy solutions for the residential segment to unlock the large potential that Indian markets offer. We have decided to step into the B2C retail segment and offer simplified energy solutions for retail consumers at their doorstep through our energy experience centers.” As part of the firm’s future growth initiative, it will be looking at providing training to its franchise partners, which in return will offer customers the most optimum energy solutions and experiences. In the future, the company envisions expanding the business by delivering customized energy efficiency solutions to MSMEs and batteries or energy storage solutions.
