Rajasthan to Welcome 1 GW Renewable Energy Projects from BPCL BPCL to set up 1 GW Re projects in Rajasthan

PSU refiner Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) will be establishing renewable projects worth 1 GW of capacity in the state of Rajasthan. Towards this goal, an MoU has been signed between the Government of Rajasthan and BPCL. Details with respect to the timeline and investment have not been shared.

The firm has set out on a mission to achieve ‘net zero’ in Scope 1&2 emissions by year 2040. BPCL has set its sights on expansion of renewable portfolio to touch generation capacity of 1 GW by 2025. By 2024, it is looking to take this capacity up to 10 GW.

The statement read as, “The MoU was signed between Bhaskar A Sawant, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Energy, Government of Rajasthan and Shelly Abraham, Head Renewable Energy, BPCL.”

Other than its renewable goals, BPCL also has a plan in offing to offer electric vehicle charging stations at about 7,000 petrol pumps in the span of the next five years. It has also joined hands in partnership with Servotech Power Systems towards this. The initiative will enable the supply and installation of 800 units of DC fast EV chargers at different locations across India in the next four months. The project will span across the country, equipping petrol pumps in major Indian cities with EV charging capabilities on its course.

Last year, BPCL had also entered into an agreement with Uttarakhand with the goal to boost the renewable energy sector in the state.

To facilitate its 2040 ambition, BPCL also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to set up 10 Gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2040.
