Power Minister Harbhajan Singh Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) recently informed that Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has commissioned a 50 MW solar power project. This project was installed by Sukhbir Agro Energy Ltd. (SAEL Limited) in the Karamgarh village, Malout. It was synchronized and solar power started flowing into the 220 KV Grid substation in Katorewala.

It includes four solar power projects including 4 MW each to be set up within Punjab, which were allotted to PEDA at a tariff of Rs. 2.748/kWh. Of these solar power projects, 4 MW is allocated at village Tarkhanwala, Bathinda, and has also been synchronized with Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) 66 KV Grid substation Sekhon.  He further added, “With the synchronization of these projects, the cumulative installed capacity of solar power projects for the State of Punjab has now reached 2081 MW.”

He also said, “PSPCL Solar Power projects of 2850 MW are under commissioning. Notably, these 54 MW solar power projects can generate approx. 3 Lakh units of green energy daily and the solar power generated by these projects can be made available during the daytime and supplied as agricultural power to farmers in the state.”

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has taken a stride to meet the state’s growing power demand while promoting sustainable energy sources. The corporation had in June 2022 finalized agreements with solar power developers for the procurement of 250 MW of solar power at a competitive rate of Rs. 2.65/kWh. The power Minister also reiterated the Punjab Govt. commitment to increase the share of clean, green, and low tariff Renewable Power and serve its consumers with the best quality reliable, and cheap power.

“These new solar power projects represent a significant step towards our goal of a greener Punjab,” added the Minister. “We are addressing our power needs and contributing to the national objective of reducing carbon emissions.”
