PM-KUSUM (Comp A): Centre Allocates 5 GW Capacity To Rajasthan PM-KUSUM (Comp A): Centre Allocates 5 GW Capacity To Rajasthan

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has now ordered allocating an additional 5,000 MW capacity to Rajasthan under the PM Kusum (Component A) Scheme. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi allocated the additional quota to the state after receiving a representation from Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and a team of top officials.

The government’s latest notification stated, “The scheme sunset is March 2026. Thus, the project commissioning timeline shall be till 31st December 2025. The state implementation agencies (SIAs/DISCOMs) would submit the progress report and completion report on the online portal for the PM KUSUM Scheme.”

The MNRE minister in his social media post said, “Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and his team met me on 7th Jan 2025 in Delhi with a request for the allocation of an additional 5,000 MW under PM-KUSUM (Component A) scheme. I am delighted to share that we have accepted the request and issued orders in record time for the additional allocation of 5,000 MW.”

The government also laid down certain terms and conditions, stating, “The DISCOM would be responsible for recovering the whole or part amount of the Central Financing Assistance (CFA), with an additional penalty and interest for non-compliance with the provisions of the scheme/sanction.” The notification also mandated the SIA/DISCOM to submit year-wise utilization certificates (UC) along with the progress report.

Progress Under The Scheme

The minister said, “At the outset, I would like to thank you for your continued support in our endeavor to encourage decentralized solar power generation under the PM-KUSUM scheme. A few months back, you, on our request, had agreed to the allocation of an additional 1,000 MW under Component A and 2 lakh agriculture pumps under Component C of the scheme. I am happy to inform you that out of the allocated capacity of 1,700 MW under Component A, the state has commissioned plants with around 308 MW, executed PPAs for another 294 MW, and projects of 1,000 MW capacity are under tendering.”

He further added, “Similarly, under Component C, the state has awarded work for 4,547 MW, out of which projects of 91 MW have already been commissioned, and another 1,139 MW are at the tendering stage. The state has recently witnessed significant participation in the bids under KUSUM A & C, with more than 3,000 applications being received under the recent tendering process for 613 Solar Power Projects. In view of the state’s potential and capability to become a leader in solar energy, I would request you for the allocation of an additional 5,000 MW under Component A (feeder-level solarization) of the PM-KUSUM scheme. This will support the state to further exploit its solar potential and become a bigger part of the national energy transition journey while incentivizing growth in rural areas.”
