Pipeline Infrastructure And DNV Collaborate To Integrate Hydrogen In India By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Thu, Jul 14th, 2022 Highlights : DNV has announced its collaboration with gas transportation company Pipeline Infrastructure Limited (PIL). DNV will offer technical guidance and assistance to Pipeline Infrastructure Limited (PIL) regarding the integration of blended hydrogen into its gas trunkline assets in India, which include transmission pipelines, interconnects, spur lines, compressor, valve, and metering stations & equipment. Norway-based independent energy expert and assurance provider, DNV has announced its collaboration with gas transportation company Pipeline Infrastructure Limited (PIL). Through this partnership, DNV will offer technical guidance and assistance to Pipeline Infrastructure Limited (PIL) regarding the integration of blended H2O into its gas trunkline assets in India, which include transmission pipelines, interconnects, spur lines, compressor, valve, and metering stations and equipment. The Indian government’s National Hydrogen Mission is set to be launched in August 2021. This mission aims to produce 5 million tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2030. In addition to financial assistance and other incentives, the Mission aims to take advantage of India’s sizable renewable energy potential to turn the country into a green hydrogen hub, assist in achieving national climate goals, and make India a significant producer and exporter of H2O to Japan, South Korea, and Europe. As per DNV’s Energy Transition Outlook 2021, the Indian subcontinent’s demand for hydrogen would go up to about 25 million tonnes every year by 2050, mostly for the manufacture, transportation, and refining of ammonia. The report also sheds light on the projected growth in India’s renewable generation, particularly solar photovoltaic, wind, and hydropower, which will account for 65% of the nation’s electricity generation mix by 2050. This will lay the foundation for the production of environmentally friendly hydrogen. To accomplish this while still allowing clients to use their current infrastructure, DNV will apply its technological know-how and approach, according to Brice Le Gallo, Vice President and Regional Director for energy systems in APAC at DNV. PIL will receive technical guidance on the suitability of its infrastructure to integrate hydrogen, drawing on DNV’s experience evaluating the technical consequences of using hydrogen at various blending ratios on gas pipelines. Additionally, DNV will work with PIL to determine whether its current network and associated assets are suitable for incorporating hydrogen at various degrees of blending.
