PGCIL’s Indu Shekhar Jha Takes Oath as Member CERC By Manu Tayal/ Updated On Tue, Jan 22nd, 2019 Prior to this, Jha was holding the post of Chief Managing Director, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) since 2015. The government has appointed Indu Shekhar Jha, former PGCIL CMD, as the Member of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). Prior to this, Jha was holding the post of Chief Managing Director, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) since 2015. The Ministry of Power said in a notification that, “R K Singh, Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy administered the oath of Office and Secrecy to Indu Shekhar Jha. Jha was appointed Member of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) vide Order dated 4.1.2019.” In addition to Jha’s appointment, Lalchharliana Pachuau was appointed as Member, Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Manipur and Mizoram from Mizoram side, it said. Power Ministry further added that, he has been appointed for a period of five years or till the age of 65 years whichever is earlier in accordance with the provisions in the Memorandum of Agreement signed by the State Governments of Manipur and Mizoram. Prior to this, Pachuau worked as Chief (Engg) in JERC for Manipur & Mizoram since July 2013. CERC consists of a Chairperson and four other Members including Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority who is the ex-officio Member of the Commission. The current chairperson is Shri P.K. Pujari, himself a former IAS officer who has been in this role since February, 2018. JERC was constituted for Manipur and Mizoram and it is a two-Member Commission, each Member representing the respective participating State. The Central Government appoints the Members of the Commission from Manipur and Mizoram sides under the provisions of the Act and in pursuance of MoA.
