Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has now emerged as the successful bidder for a major Inter State Transmission Project in Rajasthan. The project will be under Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process with an objective to finalize the transmission system for evacuation of power from the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase-IV. This particular project titled as “Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-2: 5.5 GW) (Jaisalmer/Barmer Complex): Part F,” is covered by clubbing parts F1 and F2.

The BOOT process means that it will be awarded on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer basis. PGCIL will construct, own, and operate the infrastructure for a set period before transferring it to any designated authority. PGCIL received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on October 9, 2024.

This will include the setting up of a new 765/400/220kV Barmer-I Pooling substation, putting up 765kV and 400kV double circuit transmission lines, and expanding associated bays at other substations within Rajasthan. This system will evacuate power from the Renewable Energy Zone that has been coming up in Rajasthan over the years to enhance the renewable energy capacity of India.

Earlier, tenders had been issued for Phase-IV of the Rajasthan REZ. The phase was planned to be built over around 5.5 GW of renewable energy capacity. The competitive bidding ensures that the efficient and cost-effective bidders are selected to build the much-needed infrastructure.
