Pankaj Agrawal has been appointed Power Secretary effective July 1, 2023. He will replace Alok Kumar, who will embrace retirement. Agrawal is an IAS Officer from the 1992 batch from the Madhya Pradesh cadre. The announcement came in late in the night amid the G20 leadership of India.
Agrawal was the Additional Secretary and Director General (Acquisition) in the Defence Ministry before he stepped into the new role. He will now join as Officer on Special Duty in the Power Ministry in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India. He will take over as Power Secretary after the superannuation of present Secretary Alok Kumar on June 30.
Agrawal’s appointment is part of new postings for 15 senior bureaucrats who have been promoted to the rank of Secretary to the Government of India.
