Origin Energy inks deal with Moree Solar Farm to buy solar power output By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Thu, Mar 31st, 2016 Origin Energy has signed an agreement to purchase electricity for 15 years from Moree solar farm in New South Wales. Origin Energy is touting the 15-year power purchase agreement (ppa) as a “landmark”. It is the first agreement that company has struck with a large scale solar facility. Under the agreement the utility will purchase 100 percent solar power output from the farm which has recently been commissioned by the local unit of Spain’s Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV). Origin Chief Executive Officer, Energy Markets, Frank Calabria said, “Origin was the world’s first energy company to adopt all seven We Mean Business coalition commitments on climate change. And we’ll continue to lead on reducing emissions by entering into PPAs on large-scale renewable projects like Moree, as well as empowering our customers through our in-home solar and battery solutions” he further added “Solar technology has improved dramatically over the past few years and the cost has come down as a result. There has never been a better time for Origin to pursue large-scale solar opportunities – and fulfil its aspiration to be one of Australia’s leading renewable energy companies.” FRV Chief Executive Officer Rafael Benjumea in a statement said, “This transaction represents a key step in achieving FRV’s strategy to develop and build renewable power generation assets across Australia and globally.” More solar projects may follow soon as the firm as been shortlisted for funding for a site in Queensland’s Darling Downs.
