NTPC Issues Tender To Build Solar Trees For Its Bongaigaon Project By Chitrika Grover/ Updated On Thu, Dec 26th, 2024 Highlights : It invited bids till December 30, 2024. NTPC Issues Tender To Build Solar Trees For Its Bongaigaon Project NTPC recently issued a tender to build and commission solar trees for the NTPC’s Bongaigaon project located in Assam. It invited the bids till December 30, 2024. The NTPC project will be located at the Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project, managed by NTPC’s Central Procurement Group – 2, Sipat Super Thermal Power Station in Chhattisgarh. The project is expected to be completed within 12 months. It also states that MSME benefits mentioned in the Bid Data Sheet (BDS) are applicable only to service contracts and not to works contracts. The Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) does not apply to this project. Project Details According to the tender documents released by NTPC, “The MSME benefits are applicable for service contracts but not for works contracts. The project is expected to be completed within 12 months.” Some of the key components used in the project include the creation of a concrete foundation to support the solar tree structure. The trunk and branches will be constructed from SS/HDG steel curved pipes, while the leaves will consist of round or leaf-shaped solar PV panels. LED lights, possibly in warm white, will replace traditional leaves. A round FRP structure at the base of the tree will serve as a sitting arrangement. The capacity of the solar panels in the leaves is expected to range between 0.6 kW and 1.25 kW. The tender specifies that materials used for the project must include a complete structure, solar panels, and LEDs designed to withstand wind speeds and storms of up to 150 km/h. The 12 heads housing the photovoltaic cells in their upper parts are to be supported by poles with diameters ranging from 60 mm to 80 mm and a wall thickness of 2.1 mm or more. The tender added that the local content requirement to categorize a Bidder/Supplier as a ‘Class I local supplier’ is a minimum of 50%. Solar trees are mainly used in areas where there is a lack of land. Like a replica of a tree, these solar systems host multiple solar panels on the diversified solar structure trunks to make the best use of the same. In India, solar trees were installed in the solar city of Konark in Odisha, on the campus of Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI) in West Bengal, Pragati Maidan in New Delhi and other areas. The Uttar Pradesh government has also issued tenders to augment the growth of solar trees in the state.
