NTPC has released a tender to select hybrid power generators for the supply of 1.2 GW of power from inter-state (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects anywhere in India. This project has a greenshoe option for an additional capacity of up to 600 MW on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis with 20th of September set as the last date for bid submission.

NTPC expects the bidders to meet the qualifying requirements. The tender document specifies conditions for the project size saying that, “The minimum project size shall be 50 MW and in multiples of 10 MW thereafter. The maximum capacity to be allotted to a single bidder shall be 600 MW, excluding additional capacity under the greenshoe option, if any.” The tender also set the minimum CUF at 30%, as detailed in the document. The higher CUF is on account of the expected wind component in the bids.

NTPC Seeks To Expand Its Renewable Energy Portfolio Through Tendering

In an investor call, NTPC recently mentioned, “As you may know, the Government of India, Ministry of Power, has reviewed and decided that in addition to renewable energy, we will require some thermal capacity as well, totaling around 80 gigawatts. Of that 80 gigawatts, NTPC will invest in 26 gigawatts. Out of this 26 gigawatts, as of today, we have almost 9.5 gigawatts under construction. Around 8 gigawatts is in the tendering process, and the remaining capacity, we intend to award by the time we meet next year at this place. So, by the time we meet again, we will have 26 gigawatts under construction. Out of that 26 gigawatts, around 2 to 2.5 gigawatts will be commissioned.”

While sharing the status of the ongoing and upcoming projects, NTPC’s director of finance also stated, “There is clear visibility of growth with various projects already at an advanced stage of execution. Seven gigawatts of conventional and 16 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity are expected to be added in the next three years.”
