NTPC Green Energy Ltd Joins Hands with Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port for Green Hydrogen Hub A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of India’s largest energy conglomerate NTPC Limited, and Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. The agreement will pave the path for the development of Green Hydrogen Hub at Kolkata. Other senior officials from NTPC and SMPK also marked their presence. The shipping industry has been striving for greener solutions. Last year, the first National Center of Excellence for Green Port and Shipping (NCoEGPS) in India was unveiled by the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal. The center wants to promote carbon neutrality and the circular economy (CE) in India’s maritime industry by creating a legislative framework and road map for adopting alternative technologies. NTPC Portfolio NTPC boasts a total installed capacity of over 73 GW. NGEL, its subsidiary has been undertaking initiatives and projects related to Green Hydrogen, energy storage. The NTPC Group is eyeing the target of 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2032, and has 3.2 GW of installed capacity and more than 20 GW capacity in the pipeline. Earlier, NGEL issued a tender to appoint a consultant and hire a designated operational entity (DOE) for the validation and verification of a 50 MW solar project in Rajgarh, Rajasthan. This also entails the renewal of the project for an additional seven years to continue clean development mechanism (CDM) benefits and carbon credits.
