The company added 4 GW of capacity in FY24, with 21 GW currently under construction and 26 GW under planning. The latest addition was the completion of a small but prestigious 40 MW project at Ayodhya, that was declared commissioned from July 31, 2024. The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) added 21 renewable energy stations and 3,117 MW of renewable energy, in its energy mix. This constitutes 4.10% of the total energy mix. NTPC plans to add 16 GW of capacity over the next three years. It also achieved its highest profit and generation in FY24, with a realization of Rs. 1.57 lakh crore. NTPC’s Projects In The Construction Phase In April this year, NTPC set a target to add 5 GW of installed capacity and aimed to increase its renewable energy capacity by 3 GW. In FY24, NTPC successfully added 3,924 MW of new capacity to its portfolio, bringing its cumulative installed capacity to nearly 76 GW. Currently, the group has an operational renewable energy capacity of 3.5 GW, with an extensive pipeline exceeding 20 GW. For many followers of the firm, its plans remain critical to overall national goals for India, as the firm is well capitalised and has the balance sheet strength to deliver on renewable goals if it sets out to do so. To that extent, an operational capacity of around 3.6 GW at the mid way mark in 2024 means it will need to add almost 8 GW annually. That’s a target that will go up considerably before it gets closer, as NTPC ‘s renewable capacity target for all of 2025 is 5 GW. A serious pick up is expected only post that with 8 GW targeted in Fy 25-26. By 2032, NTPC aims to expand its non-fossil-based capacity to 45-50% of its portfolio, which will include 60 GW of renewable energy capacity out of a total portfolio of 130 GW.NTPC Ltd. is India’s largest integrated power utility, contributing to one-fourth of the country’s power requirements. With a diverse portfolio of thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power plants, NTPC is dedicated to delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity to the nation.
