NREA drafts tender for 20 MW solar project in Hurghada By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Tue, Aug 9th, 2016 The New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) is in process to release a tender for a 20 MW solar power plant in Hurghada, Egypt. Recently, Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) was presented with a proposal to finance the project for Hurghada solar plant by NREA. The Ministry of Electricity stated that a soft loan of $91m from JICA. The authority will send the loan documentation to the House of Representatives for approval. Also, the authority will select a special consultant during the coming period to conduct the project’s feasibility study and the five-year plan for the Ministry of Electricity’s projects. The JICA has completed the project’s feasibility study and disbursed a grant worth $1.5m that would help in setting up equipment at the site to measure the solar radiation to ensure the feasibility of the project. The equipment would also calculate the expected production rate. The cooperation between JICA and Egypt for the solar project focuses on the technical side, which would benefit Egypt from Japanese technology in the field of generating electricity. The Ministry of Electricity seeks to produce 20% of electricity from new and renewable resources by 2020.
