Niti Aayog to Launch SDG India Index & Dashboard 2019-20 on Dec 30 By Manu Tayal/ Updated On Thu, Dec 26th, 2019 With an aim to track and showcase the country’s updated position in its SDG journey, government think-tank Niti Aayog will be launching its second edition of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index and Dashboard 2019–20. The Second Index & Dashboard 2019 will be released at the Niti Aayog office in New Delhi on December 30, 2019. The report documents the progress made by States and Union Territories (UTs) of India towards the implementation of 2030 SDG targets. Further, the SDG India Index and Dashboard 2019–20 have been developed jointly by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the United Nations in India, and the Global Green Growth Institute. The SDG India Index tool was first launched in December last year. It was the first tool developed by any large country to monitor the progress towards achieving SDGs at the sub-national level. India’s key policy think tank has been mandated to oversee the adoption and monitoring of SDGs in the country, at the national as well as sub-national level. This tool tracks the progress of along with the ranks of all the States and UTs on 100 indicators drawn from the MoSPI’s National Indicator Framework, comprising 306 indicators. It indicates where the country and its States and UTs currently stand on SDG implementation. Besides, it will also display the distance to be travelled to reach the SDG targets. As per the Niti Aayog, this time the Index covers 16 out of 17 SDGs and a qualitative assessment on Goal 17, which marks an improvement over the 2018 Index, which covered only 13 goals. Meanwhile, the Second Index & Dashboard will be launched by Dr Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, in the presence of Members Dr Ramesh Chand, Dr VK Paul, Dr VK Saraswat, Amitabh Kant, CEO of Amitabh Kant, Renata Lok-Dessallien who is the UN Resident Coordinator, Pravin Srivastava, MoSPI Secretary and Chief Statistician of India, and Sanyukta Samaddar, NITI Aayog Adviser (SDGs).
