NHPC planning to set up 600MW solar project at Koyna dam in Maharashtra By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Mon, Jun 27th, 2016 National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) as part of an initiative to expand its solar portfolio is reportedly planning to set a 600-MW solar project at the Koyna dam in Maharashtra. NHPC is carrying out financial and feasibility study for the project. The company t plans to set up floating solar panels with pumped storage system reports PTI citing a senior company official. Speaking to the Agency NHPC Technical Director Balraj Joshi said “We want to expand our solar portfolio and we are continuously looking out for opportunities. We are looking at setting up a floating solar project of around 600 MW at the Koyna complex in Satara district of Maharashtra.” He further added “The gestation period of construction of hydroelectric project is relatively longer than any other projects. Therefore, we want to expand in the solar sector. At Koyna, we plan to develop the project on solar hybrid model. According to the company once the work commences, it will take almost five years to complete.
