NHPC Operationalizes 107.14 MW Rajasthan Solar Project NHPC

NHPC began commercial operations for 107.14 MW of its 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan, effective April 12, 2025, the company told in a regulatory filing.  The company completed trial runs for the commissioned capacity on April 10 and informed the stock exchanges through a regulatory filing. NHPC said the trial run and commercial operation date (COD) for the remaining capacity will be announced later.

Earlier Project Development

In March 2025, NHPC connected the Karnisar project to the interstate transmission system (ISTS) and began injecting 31 MW of power into the grid. The company previously said commercial operations of 100 MW in phases would be announced later and the full 300 MW project is expected to be commissioned by August 31, 2025.

Rajasthan’s Solar Growth

Apart from NHPC, other developers including Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) are also expanding solar capacity in Rajasthan. AGEL recently commissioned a 250 MW solar project in Bhimsar through its subsidiary, Adani Green Energy Twenty-Four Ltd.

The addition takes AGEL’s total operational renewable energy capacity to 12,841.1 MW, the company said. The commissioning aligns with the push to meet key deadlines—March and June 2025—for availing 100% interstate transmission charge waivers for green energy projects.

Companies like SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL) have also completed trial operations of a 241.77 MW solar power project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, marking Phase I of its planned 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project. The company said in a regulatory filing that the capacity became operational on March 31, 2025, and was scheduled to achieve commercial operation on April 2, 2025. The full 1,000 MW project is expected to be commissioned by September 30, 2025. Upon completion, SGEL will supply solar power to Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.
