Hydropower developer NHPC Ltd, has entered into an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO). The agreement will pave the way for the development of pumped storage and renewable energy projects in Odisha. As per the agreement, pumped storage projects of a minimum of 2 GW and renewable energy projects that shall entail ground-mounted or floating solar of at least 1 GW will be established in Odisha.

As per the agreement, NHPC will identify sites for Pumped Storage Projects and RE projects.

GRIDCO is the nodal agency that will be responsible for implementing the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy, 2022 and holds the first right of refusal for availing the capacity basing on requirements.

Earlier in June, NHPC had signed agreements with the Maharashtra government, as per which, it will develop four pumped storage projects, a cumulative of 7,350 MW in the state. NHPC has also set sights on developing pumped storage projects in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.

Earlier, NHPC issued a tender for the selection of Solar Power Developer for establishing 3000 MW ISTS connected solar power projects anywhere in India.

It may be recalled that GRIDCO had signed a Power Sale Agreement with SECI under which, GRIDCO will purchase 600 MW wind power from SECI.
