National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), a power generation company recently signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). This PPA was signed for a 200 MW capacity solar power project within Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) ‘s renewable energy (RE) park at Khavda (GSECL Stage-3).

This project has an estimated financial implication of Rs.846.66 crore (approx.) The scheduled completion period for the project is 15 months from the date of execution of the PPA.

Earlier this year, NHPC released a tender released tender, inviting bids for the selection of solar power generators for setting up 1200 MW (1.2 GW) ISTS-connected solar power projects anywhere in India basis under TBCB. This tender was released for projects located in northeastern states and special categories, NHPC sets the minimum quantum of contracted capacity that can be offered by a bidder, including its parent, affiliate, or ultimate parent or any group company, to be 30 MW. The cumulative capacity offered is expected to not exceed 600 MW without “the greenshoe option” and 1200MW for a bidder with the greenshoe Option.

The Khavda Renewable Park in Gujarat, this year received an impetus with a dedicated transmission line to evacuate 7 GW of renewable power. This comes after the Khavda-Bhuj Transmission Limited (KBTL) received the central power regulator’s nod to proceed ahead to establish the dedicated renewable evacuation line. KBTL had earlier approached the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) seeking a grant of a separate transmission license for the implementation of the transmission system for the evacuation of green power from the potential renewable energy zone in Khavda under Phase-IV (7 GW). It is supposed to be done through the Regulated Tariff Mechanism (RTM) mode.
