The solar PV portfolio, worth over US$1 billion, consists of seven operating utility-scale solar projects and one project under construction. It is expected to produce more than 300GWh of power annually. The financing was led by Macquarie Capital, the investment division of Australian financial services group Macquarie Group and a syndicate led by Shinhan Asset Management. The project, to be funded using coal royalties besides other sources, is expected to be completed by 2029. The hub of the project will be based in Hughenden, located to the south-west of Townsville City. It is being developed by Queensland government-owned network operator Powerlink. With a 70% renewable target by 2032 for Australia, Queensland is playing catch up with South Australia as it seeks to triple rooftop solar deployment and a plan to add 22 GW of renewable energy to the grid by 2035.
