News Flash. No Disruptions in Renewables Ministry, as R.K. Singh Retains Portfolio By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Fri, May 31st, 2019 With the final list of ministers and their allocations finally out, the Indian renewable energy industry would have heaved a sigh of relief to see that no major faces are being changed. Shri R.K. Singh, who was handling the MNRE Ministry and Power Ministry earlier too, comes back as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, The Power Ministry, and of course, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Shri Singh has had the distinction of being involved with one of the biggest shifts ever in the energy sector, from fossil to renewables. Not just that, he has also overseen some of the most transparent bidding practices, that have seen India become one of the leading, if not THE leading, country when it comes to cost of renewable energy. In his second stint, we wish him the very best as he takes fresh guard, and hope that the industry will rise to new heights under his guidance. With the renewables sector set to be a huge jobs creator in the coming years, we believe it is no coincidence that Shri Singh has the Skill development and entrepreneurship responsibility too, and trust that the sector shall see the blossoming of a whole new class of energy entrepreneurs soon, as the markets are opened up further. The slowdown of the past few months will obvious among the minister’stop priorities, besides kick starting progress on a whole host of ambitious projects, be it the 7.5GW leh Ladakh project, floating solar projects, the stall in wind projects in Gujarat, and of course, the challenge of getting Indian manufacturing up to speed with the rest of the world. Opportunities in the energy storage domain also beckon, and it should be exciting times ahead for all.
