News Briefs July 31- Chinese Manufacturers Make Global Moves

From Jinko in Spain to Drinda in Oman, or Power China in the UAE, it’s been a week when China’s many solar manufacturers have made big moves globally to align themselves to emerging opportunities and challenges. Earlier last week, Saudi Arabia’s PIF  fund had also announced some major manufacturing plans for the kingdom with leading Chinese manufacturers of solar.  Let’s take a look.

Jinko Solar Seeks $190 Million For Spanish Solar Farm

Jinko Solar, which has been among the top 2 solar module manufacturers for some time now, has put some solar projects in Spain on the block as it seeks to recycles assets while seeking an asset light model for its global operations. The Antequera solar farm project in Spain which houses multiple projects, will see 4 projects being sold off by Jinko’s subsidiary firm in Spain for upto $190 million. the 175 MW of total projects were expected to be commissioned by September this year. the buyer is another Chinese firm, Hong Kong-based subsidiary of Chinese hydropower giant China Huadian. In most markets, Chinese manufacturers have desisted from promoting projects as IPPs themselves for some time now.

 

Power China bags 1.5 GW EPC Deal in UAE

Power Construction Corporation of China has won a significant overseas deal, this time in the UAE. A consortium led by PowerChina’s Abu Dhabi branch and its subsidiary PowerChina Huadong Engineering has signed an EPC contract for the Al Ajban PV3 solar power plant with the project owner. The construction period fpr the 1.5 GW project is expected to be 28 months.

The project scope includes the design, construction, procurement, installation, commissioning, and trial operation of the PV power plant and its affiliated 400-kilowatt booster station, as well as for its operation and maintenance during the 24-month warranty period after the project is completed and put into operation.

 

Drinda New Energy Doubles Up On Solar Manufacturing In Oman

Close on the heels of a 10 GW module and cell making announcement from Chinese major Q-Sun, Chinese photovoltaic firm Drinda New Energy Technology has announced plans to build a second high-efficiency solar cell production base of 5 GW in Oman.

Drinda will invest USD280 million to build a production base in the Sohar Free Zone over an area of nearly 66 acres, the  plant is expected to be completed next year after a nine-month construction period.

On June 13, Drinda had announced it planned to invest USD700 million to build a high-efficiency solar battery factory in Oman, with an annual production capacity of 10 GW.
