Army Solar, a new entrant in India’s solar module manufacturing sector, is set to carve out its own niche in the growing industry. Previously focused on the textile business, the company has now turned its attention to the booming solar market, aiming to establish itself as a key player in module production.

Praful Radadiya, Co-Founder of Army Solar, told Saur Energy that the company will begin its solar journey with an initial production capacity of 600 MW.

600 MW Of Initial Module Capacity

“We have decided to start with a 600 MW facility in Surat. Our goal is to scale up production to 3 GW over the next three years. While we were once a well-known name in the textile sector, we are now fully committed to expanding our presence in solar module manufacturing,” Radadiya said.

He highlighted Gujarat’s evolution from being known as the diamond city to becoming a textile hub and now a thriving center for solar module manufacturing. “Recognizing this shift, Army Solar has strategically chosen Surat as the ideal location for our investment in the solar sector,” he explained.

Army Solar Foresees Good Demand

The Indian solar industry is witnessing rapid expansion, with increasing demand fueled by large-scale project developments. “The solar sector in India was once lagging behind, but today, it is growing at an unprecedented pace. We are seeing strong demand, driven by the expansion of solar projects nationwide,” he added.

When asked about the role of government policies in supporting domestic manufacturing, Radadiya pointed to the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) as a critical factor in the industry’s growth.

“ALMM has been a game-changer for Indian solar module manufacturers, significantly enhancing their market presence and strengthening the domestic solar ecosystem,” the co-founder of Army Solar stated.
