The government seems to ‘kill two birds with one stone’ as Home Minister Rajnath Singh asserts to install solar tree in Delhi under the smart city scheme which would also serve as a step forward towards government’s National Solar Mission. The minister launched a batch of initiatives under the smart city scheme at an inaugural ceremony at Charkha Park. The batch included free Wi-Fi, solar tree, ideation center, interactive LED screens installation, two hi-tech nurseries, four mechanical road sweepers, two litter picking machines and 10 auto tippers. The projects were handed over to New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) right through the conclusion of the launch. During the ceremony, a coffee table book ‘Green and Colorful NDMC- a Transformational Journey’ on the green initiatives of NDMC was also launched. Previously, Delhi Government too had been involved in enhancing the use of solar energy by approving solar farm program for boosting incomes of farmers. The ceremony also saw the launch of smart pole installation. The poles, in brief, would record red-light and over speeding violations and would generate e-tickets for the violations. Meanwhile, Delhi Lt. Governor Anil Baijal suggested that the parking management system be integrated with information of vacancies in other nearby parking spots.
