Mumbai CSIMA Among India’s 100% Green Airport By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Wed, Oct 12th, 2022 Highlights : The first airport in India to have hybrid technology that only uses green energy as of April 2022 is Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Out of the total 100% needs, the CSMIA obtains approximately 5% of the airport’s electricity needs by onsite solar generating and the remaining 95% from other environmentally friendly sources including hydro and wind energy. The first airport in India to have hybrid technology that only uses green energy as of April 2022, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSIMA) is now among India’s 100% ecologically sustainable airports. As part of its attempts to lessen its carbon footprint and advance toward “Net Zero” emissions, the CSMIA meets all of its energy needs through green sources only. “The global aviation industry can do a lot to support sustainability pillars like the environment, social, and economic. The future depends on the sustainable work we perform today and our continued dedication to its sustainable aims,” According to a CSMIA spokeswoman. Out of the total 100% needs, the CSMIA obtains approximately 5% of the airport’s electricity needs by onsite solar generating and the remaining 95% from other environmentally friendly sources including hydro and wind energy. The CSMIA saw an increase in the purchase of green energy, going from a paltry 57% in April 2022 to a staggering 98.6% between May and July. And, finally, in August 2022, reached the historic milestone of using only renewable energy, according to the spokeswoman. “A 1.06 MW rooftop solar power plant was initially erected by the CSMIA, which was later increased to 4.66 MW. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), which presented the CSMIA, acknowledged this initiative,” the official added. To attain “Net Zero Carbon Emission” by 2029, the CSMIA has created a plan. The CSMIA increased its use of renewable energy in April 2022 and installed a 10 Kwp Hybrid Solar Mill made up of a 2 Kwp Turbo Mill (3 Savonious type VAWT) and an 8 Kwp Solar PV module array with an expected minimum energy generation of 36 kWh per day.
