MP Pushes To Provide Solar Pumps To 30L Farmers Over Next Three Years By Chitrika Grover/ Updated On Fri, Mar 7th, 2025 Highlights : Chief Minister Yadav said our government is going to provide permanent electricity connection to farmers for just Rs 5 Solar Pumps Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has advocated for making farmers of the state self-reliant by giving solar pumps to 30 lakh farmers in the next three years. He said, “This will make our farmers not only food providers but also energy providers. Yadav said that “our government is going to provide permanent electricity connection to farmers for just Rs 5”. He highlighted that while agricultural achievements are commendable, industrial progress is equally crucial, as no country has achieved full development solely through agriculture. The 16th Finance Commission, in a meeting held in Bhopal, appreciated the progress made by Madhya Pradesh across various sectors and acknowledged that the state is actively planning for future growth. Chairman Arvind Panagariya emphasized that the development of large states like Madhya Pradesh is essential for India’s overall progress. ACS Manu Shrivastava shared about the energy sector that the targets of the 15th Finance Commission have been met. Now, attention is being paid to hybrid storage. He said, “Arrangements have been made to provide ample electricity to the farmers. Madhya Pradesh is the state that produces solar energy at the cheapest rate in the country.” Solar Pumps On The Rise In MP Madhya Pradesh’s latest initiative is expected to help companies like the state based Shakti Pumps (India), which have already seen a surge in demand for solar pumps in the state. Shakti Pumps has been a key beneficiary of the PMKUSUM scheme for rolling out over 5 million solar water pumps across India, besides establishing ground mounted solar plants on waste lands. While the off-grid pumps initiative has moved ahead well, the on-grid pumps, and solar plants initiatives are only catching on now.
