MNRE Announces RPO Compliance Unit By Zulkarnain/ Updated On Sat, May 26th, 2018 The RPO Compliance Cell will coordinate with states, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and SERCs on all things related to the RPO. It will oversee monthly reports on RPO compliance, coordinate periodic reporting, and act on non-compliance with the appropriate authorities. To improve enforcement of key policies for clean energy deployment in the country, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has introduced a Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) compliance unit. In 2015 former MNRE Joint Secretary Tarun Kapoor said that PRO was the “single most important” policy of the government for renewables in India, but the enforcement of the RPO had been either weak or non-existent. The RPO Compliance Cell will coordinate with states, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and SERCs on all things related to the RPO. It will oversee monthly reports on RPO compliance, coordinate periodic reporting, and act on non-compliance with the appropriate authorities. A scientist at MNRE has been designated as the nodal officer of the RPO Compliance Cell. In October 2017 Power Minister R K Singh said MNRE was planning to make RPOs statutory.
