The deployment of large wind turbines now has come under the lens. In the latest development, two blades of Mingyang’s large wind turbines are now reported to have broken off. This comes at a time when the wind turbine manufacturer, touted as the world’s largest wind turbine maker is boasting about its large offshore wind turbines.

According to some media reports, two blades of its offshore wind turbines were found to be broken. The company had earlier deployed its 20 MW large wind turbine as a prototype model, giving new hopes of large wind turbine deployment to increase production from the same patch of land.

Case from China

These wind turbines were installed in China. They were deployed in the Hainan province of the country. The exact reasons for the detachment of these blades are still unclear.

In the offshore segment, the company now boasts of producing wind turbines with capacities ranging from 8 MW to 20MW+. The company is also into the production of floating wind turbines. On the other hand, the onshore wind turbines offered by Mingyang range from 3 MW to 11 MW.

Rise of large wind turbines

Across the world, more wind turbine makers are now in the race to launch large wind turbines. This ensures converting more wind into renewable energy. Compared to onshore wind turbines, offshore wind turbines are often large in size to maximize the production of clean energy from the same patch of land.

Several companies like Mingyang, Deonfang Electric, Vestas, Envision and others have tried bringing in more large wind turbines to maximize the avenues of wind energy.
