Pathak said that 45 lakh farmers have agriculture pumps in Maharashtra. Under the said program, 7,000 MW worth capacity of solar electricity will be generated in the Mahasrashtra for agricultural pumps. With this goal in mind, the state will looking at an investment of Rs 30,000 crore in the power generation sector.

“We anticipate a good response and several jobs will be created in rural areas,” Patahak said. ”Farmers will get an opportunity to earn an annual rent of Rs 1.25 lakh per hectare, by renting out land for solar power projects,” he further added.

The scheme recently introduced has several benefits to offer. Not only will it provide support to farmers, power will be supplied to industries at fair rate.

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL) is implementing the scheme. The scheme has seen projects of 553 MW capacity being commissioned. 230 agricultural feeders are providing electricity to one lakh farmers for pumps in a day.

Maharashtra has been introducing several initiatives to give a push to solar-powered agriculture. Earlier, Chief Minister Shinde said that a rent worth Rs 1.25 lakh will be provided annually to farmers who lease out land to the government for a period of 30 years for the establishment of solar feeders. The rent amount will rise by three per cent yearly. Farmers will hold the land title. A few months ago, the Deputy CM of the state said it was set to provide 5 Lakh solar pumps under PM-KUSUM.
