L&T Division Gets Order For Energy Management Systems In India

The Digital Energy Solutions (DES) arm of Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission and Distribution (PT&D) business has received an order to develop and implement Energy Management Systems across regional and state load dispatch centers in South India.

As part of the order, L&T is expected to develop energy management and associated software systems for 12 control rooms. These systems are being implemented in both main and backup configurations for the Southern Regional Load Dispatch Centre (RLDC) and the State Load Dispatch Centers (SLDC) of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.

The integration and implementation of these systems are to be carried out without causing downtime for the existing infrastructure. This order adds to the growing list of digitally based intelligent projects being executed by L&T DES globally.

Digital Energy Solutions (DES)

The Digital Energy Solutions division of L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution vertical specializes in advanced grid services, energy consulting, and system integration solutions. Its goal is to accelerate the digitalization of the electric grid in India, the Middle East, and the USA.

Transmission & Distribution Management and Control

L&T DES is expected to upgrade control rooms with power system applications supplied by the OEM to monitor and control energy flow in the electricity transmission network in real-time, ensuring reliable and secure grid operations. This upgrade can leverage the L&T-Spark-CRIM™ (Control Room Integration Middleware) Platform to integrate substation data.

L&T is also executing a series of advanced grid modernization and digitalization orders in India, including upgrading the National and Regional Transmission Asset Management Centers. This involves 13 control rooms nationwide, integrating 270 EHV transmission substations.

Renewable Integration and Control

L&T DES is implementing L&T-Spark-HECS™ (Hybrid Energy Management and Control System) to monitor and control a 185 MW solar and 254 MWh energy storage hybrid plant in Bihar.

With the rapid expansion of renewable hybrid plants, the company is involved in providing Solar-Storage Power Plant Controller solutions for large renewable projects globally. L&T-Spark-PPC™ (Solar Power Plant Controller) currently powers six solar plants with multiple gigawatts of peak production capacity, ensuring grid compliance in India and the Middle East.
