LONGi Green Energy seems to be charting new territories in Malaysia. With an investment of MYR 1.8 billion (approximately RMB 2.8 billion), LONGi Malaysia Serendah Module Plant in Selangor has officially been set in motion.

This landmark development signifies LONGi’s pursuit of delivering top-tier solar products and leading sustainable energy practices.

This project, spanning over 140 acres, is LONGi Green Energy’s premier manufacturing venture in Peninsular Malaysia. The firm said that it integrated the pinnacle of photovoltaic industry technology, craftsmanship, and equipment in the Serendah Module Plant which is poised to revolutionise the sector.

“Once operational for the entire phases, the plant’s production prowess is slated to reach 8.8GW, reinforcing LONGi Green Energy’s ambition to champion global sustainable development and position Malaysia as a pivotal gateway for its photovoltaic exports,” a media statement from LONGi said.

Tracing its roots back to Xi’an, China, LONGi Green Energy is a global vanguard in the solar technology sphere. Its overseas ventures began in 2015, with Malaysia joining its portfolio in 2016 through ventures in Kuching and Bintulu. Its Malaysian subsidiary, LONGi Kuching, laid the foundation for the world’s first vertically integrated monocrystalline silicon solar manufacturing base in the Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone, Sarawak. This facility is renowned for its specialised production of silicon ingots, wafers, and cells for solar modules. LONGi Green Energy’s commitment to Sarawak is evident, with investments amounting to MYR 5.6 billion (equivalent to RMB 8.7 billion), and the company’s vision includes further expansion within the region.

Li Wenxu, Vice President of LONGi Green Energy Group, stated, “Following our successful endeavours in East Malaysia, we have confidently expanded to West Malaysia, underlining our firm commitment to fostering sustainable growth within the nation. It’s encouraging to witness Malaysia adopting our cutting-edge technologies, which propels its economic prosperity and solidifies our position as the global frontrunner in the solar industry.”

Beyond boosting the local economy, this investment also supports Malaysia’s aspiration to establish itself as a linchpin of sustainable development in Southeast Asia and to pioneer comprehensive decarbonisation within the region. Additionally, the LONGi Malaysia Serendah Module Plant in Selangor is set to provide approximately 900 high-quality jobs locally. From the initiation of monocrystalline silicon wafer production in 2016 to the expansion of silicon wafer, cell, and module production by 2023, LONGi Green Energy’s workforce in Malaysia has grown from a mere 570 to over 8,000, with a remarkable 99.9% being Malaysian residents.
