Largest Floating Solar of North India Worth 2 MWp Capacity Inaugurated in Chandigarh

North India’s largest floating solar power plant of 2MWp capacity has been unveiled at Chandigarh. The floating solar facility was inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Banwari Lal Purohit.

The official statement of the UT held that the plant was commissioned by Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST) and developed by Hartek Solar.

The floating solar power plant, situated at Water Works, Sector 39, Chandigarh, will generate 28,00,000 units of electricity annually. The plant is expected to offset 80,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. This project is a major milestone in the transition to renewable energy in India and a significant step towards achieving sustainable energy goals and reducing carbon emissions in the region.

The inauguration was attended by Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator, Debendra Dalai who is the CEO of CREST, and Nitin Kumar Yadav, Home Secretary, UT Chandigarh among other dignitaries.

Simarpreet Singh, Director of Hartek Group, said on the inauguration of the facility, “We are thrilled to be a part of this ground-breaking project in Chandigarh. This floating solar power plant is a major step towards achieving sustainable energy goals and reducing carbon emissions in the region. We are committed to support and contribute to the development of renewable energy and Net Zero in India.”

The Hartek Group held that the floating solar power plant is not only a significant step towards achieving sustainable energy goals but also a major step towards meeting India’s Net-Zero targets.

Chandigarh is undertaking a number of unique solar power projects that includes 2 MWp canal-top solar power plant at N-Choe in Sector-52, 2 MWp canal-top solar power plant at Patiala Ki Rao and a 500 kWp floating solar power plant at Dhanas Lake.

The UT has been judged best among the Union Territories by Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of States (AREAS) with regards to solar power installation in India.
