Khavda: GE Vernova Gets Rs. 400 Cr Order From Sterlite Power GE Vernova

GE Vernova recently secured an order worth approximately ₹400 crore from Sterlite Power. The US-based wind energy company will supply and supervise 765 kV power transformers and reactors for the Khavda project. GE Vernova plans to execute the project within two years.

Wind turbine manufacturers in India have been increasing the upper capacity limit of their turbines. While countries like China deploy turbines with capacities of 8 MW to 10 MW, Indian manufacturers face cost constraints that limit the adoption of such large structures. Government data reveals that more than eight manufacturers in India offer turbines with capacities beyond 3 MW. Suzlon frequently highlights its success in securing multiple orders for its 3.15 MW wind turbines. Inox Wind credits its 3 MW turbine series for significantly boosting its order book.

Wind Potential in Gujarat

Adani Renewable Energy recently operationalized 250 MW of wind energy capacity at the Khavda Renewable Park in Gujarat, touted as the world’s largest renewable energy park. The company followed this milestone with the operationalization of 1 gigawatt (GW) of solar capacity at Khavda. Adani Renewable Energy plans to add 30 GW of renewable energy capacity at this site. These developments have significantly boosted the Rann of Kutch region.

GE Vernova has also signed an agreement to supply 51.3 MW of wind turbines to Powerica in Gujarat. Powerica will install 19 GE Vernova 2.7 MW-132 wind turbine generators (WTGs) for its project in Devbhumi Dwarka, Gujarat.

Operating a pan-India wind energy portfolio of 280 MW, Powerica actively participates in both the Independent Power Producer (IPP) and Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) sectors of the wind industry. The company secured this project under the SECI XVI tranche bid. Powerica booked the WTGs for this project in the second quarter of 2024 and plans to commence delivery in November 2024.
