Kendriya Vidyalayas to tap solar power By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Sat, Dec 10th, 2016 Kendriya Vidyalayas to go green with installation of rooftop solar power systems. Kendriya Vidyalayas Sangathan (KVS) announced that it has decided to launch a pilot project to generate clean electricity through Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic System in its schools in the NCR and the North East region. KVS has already conducted detailed survey of KVS schools located in the NCR for installation of rooftop solar PV power system. KVS citing the survey report stated that approximately 1.18 MWp grid connected rooftop solar PV system can be installed in 24 KVs. Santosh Kumar, commissioner- KVS Mall said that the KVS schools posses a huge roof-top area with a nationwide potential of 120 MW and the Solar PV projects will be a big step towards clean and green energy. According to a press statement KVS has already shared data of 677 KVs with MNRE for assessing roof-top solar PV potential. The Modi government has set a target of 1,00,000 MW of solar power generation by 2022 out of which 40,000 MW is proposed from grid connected roof-top solar PV plants.
