Karnataka Tops List With Most EV Charging Stations In India, Reveals BEE Data In a recent revelation by the Union Ministry of Power, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) stated that the southern state of Karnataka has grabbed the top position as far as electric vehicle charging stations are concerned. The data said that the state now has 5,059 EV charging stations. According to a release from the office of Energy Minister KJ George: “As per data from the Central government, Karnataka has 3.31lakh EVs and 5,059 charging stations. Delhi has 2.74lakh EVs and 1,886 charging stations, Uttar Pradesh has 7.45lakh EVs with 583 charging stations, Tamil Nadu has 2.20lakh EVs and 643 charging stations, Kerala has 1.39lakh EVs and 958 charging stations, Maharashtra has 4.15lakh vehicles and 3,079 charging stations and Rajasthan has 2.33lakh vehicles and 500 charging stations.” This clearly shows that Karnataka has surpassed Maharashtra and Delhi which were at the top in several EV charging stations in the country. With 4,281 public charging stations, Bengaluru Urban District has the most charging points in any district comprising 85 percent of the state’s total charging infrastructure, the data showed. Though Uttar Pradesh leads the country with 7.45 lakh electric vehicles (EVs), followed by Maharashtra with 4.15 lakh electric vehicles, Karnataka has 3.31 lakh EV vehicles in the current scenario. According to Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom), the key body for EV charging infrastructure in Karnataka, the state saw a growth in the number of registered electric vehicles (EVs) from 9,703 in 2020 to 33,306 in 2021, 95,892 in 2022, and 1.52 lakh in 2023. In November last year, the Karnataka government introduced a revised draft EV policy to attract an investment of Rs 50,000 crore while creating job opportunities for one lakh individuals. MB Patil, Karnataka’s minister for large and medium industries and infrastructure development said about the scheme that it will transform Karnataka into a pioneering force in the field of electric mobility, embracing sustainable practices and equitable growth while fostering innovation and creating a robust EV ecosystem throughout the state. With a growing EV landscape across the country, Karnataka has been boasting an 8 percent adoption rate while showcasing the state’s commitment to reshaping the mobility landscape.
