Karnataka Bank under ‘solar light scholarship’ programme to provide solar lights to rural students By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Sat, Jul 23rd, 2016 Karnataka Bank Ltd with Manipal-based non-governmental organisation Bharatiya Vikas Trust (BVT) has started a solar programme to provide solar lights to students in rural areas under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. Under the program the bank till date has provided solar lights to 100 houses of the students from remote rural areas of Udupi district. Chief General Manager of Karnataka Bank,MS Mahabaleshwara speaking to Business Line said students lacking electricity connection has been given these solar light under ‘solar light scholarship’ . SELCO Solar installs the solar units in the houses of students identified by school authorities and screened by BVT. The cost of the solar light is Rs. 9,500 , family of the beneficiary pays Rs. 4,500 while rest of the rest is paid by the bank. So far the bank has spent Rs. 5Lakh for the project.
