JSW Expands Wind Energy Projects

JSW’s latest projects, including Amazon’s investment in a 180 MW wind project at JSW Energy Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu, are boosting the company’s wind energy portfolio. In a recent investor call discussing its quarterly results, JSW Energy stated, “Net capacity addition for the quarter stands at 9.3 GW, compared to 2.9 GW added in the same quarter last year. Capacity additions were primarily driven by 7.9 GW of renewable energy, with 7.1 GW from solar and 800 MW from wind.”

Discussing the JSW’s latest acquisitions, JSW Energy Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sharad Mahendra said, “On January 10, 2025, we completed the acquisition of a 125 MW wind project from Hetero Labs and Hetero Drugs Ltd. at an enterprise valuation of approximately ₹630 crore. This portfolio has a blended tariff of ₹5.22 per unit and an average remaining plant life of 15 years. With this addition, our total installed capacity now stands at 8,242 MW.”

He further added, “We are on track to reach 10 GW of capacity by the end of FY25. In the last quarter, we added 377 MW to our organic renewable projects, all of which were wind, representing 47% of the country’s total wind capacity addition of 800 MW in Q3. We are currently constructing 1.1 GW of wind projects for SECI.”

Discussing the company’s wind energy expansion, JSW Energy stated, “Our renewable generation increased 18% YoY, mainly due to the addition of 928 MW of wind capacity over the past 12 months.”
