Jaipur To Add Another GW Sized Solar Plant, From RMC Switchgears Now RMC Switchgear

The Rajasthan-based renewable energy company, RMC Switchgears, recently conducted a Bhoomi Poojan ceremony for its new solar module manufacturing plant in Chaksu, Jaipur. This will be an addition to its existing unit in the region.

RMC Switchgear shared, “The company conducted the ‘Bhoomi Poojan Ceremony’ for its new solar module manufacturing plant, with a proposed capacity of 1 GWp. The project is located at its existing premises in Chaksu, Jaipur.” It further added, “Our new unit will not only enhance our production capabilities but also contribute to sustainable energy solutions. The company has yet to commence manufacturing operations, either directly or through its subsidiary.”

Last year, in 2024, RMC Switchgears had announced its solar plans in a regulatory filing. This announcement came soon after the company entered the solar EPC business. The company also plans to begin manufacturing mounting structures, with a capacity of 1 GWp each. The firm had planned to establish its manufacturing unit at Badodiya Village, Chaksu Tehsil, Jaipur, Rajasthan, with an estimated capital expenditure of ₹100 crore.

Companies Eyeing Rajasthan For Manufacturing

Rajasthan has emerged as an important centre for module manufacturing, thanks to the states industrial policies as well as close location to some of the largest planned solar parks. In fact, over 25% of new upcoming solar capacity is set to be installed in the state, making a strong case for manufacturing in the vicinity. While local firm Insolation Energy has been expanding capacity in the region, ReNew started its solar manufacturing in Jaipur with a 2 GW plant in 2023. Then there is GREW Energy, which has also set up a plant in Jaipur. Thus, within a 2 year period, solar manufacturing capacity in Jaipur has moved from 500 MW to over 5 GW, with at least 3 GW more to come soon.
