According to the Ministry of Energy, solar power plants have an annual production of 455.28 megawatts and a share of a little over 50 percent of renewable electricity. Wind power plants, on the other hand, have a share of 34.31%. Iran has recently sent a Bill to the Parliament, looking to get onboarded as a member to the International Solar Alliance. As per the country’s Sixth Development Plan, it should have augmented its share of renewable power in electricity generation by at least 5 per cent. Currently, the share of renewables in Iran’s electricity generation is only a little over 1.1%. The nominal installed capacity of Iran presently stands at 90 GW, with renewable share along with solar farms claiming only 970 MW. Iran’s government has set sights on becoming the main producer of electricity with the help of clean sources of energy through the expansion of renewable power plants by 13 times. A few days ago, the Caribbean small island developing states (SIDS) of Antigua and Barbuda, which rely on substantially on petroleum to produce electricity. Having joined the agreement, And for electricity production and transportation, petroleum is used extensively. The agreement will pave the way for Antigua and Barbuda to be able to access to funding as well as technologies for renewable energy. India is working closely with the government towards the proposals related to USD 10 mn line of credit assistance for solar energy.
