India’s Total Solar Energy Capacity Crosses 74 GW: CEA Data By Manish Kumar/ Updated On Fri, Feb 16th, 2024 India's Total Solar Energy Capacity Crosses 74 GW: CEA Data The latest data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) revealed that India’s total solar capacity has surpassed 74 GW. The revelation was made in the CEA’s recent monthly installed capacity report. The CEA report said that by the end of January 2024, India’s total solar energy capacity reached 74.306 GW. Similarly, the country’s total wind energy capacity reached 44.96 GW. The monthly government report for January this year said that in the first month of 2024, India added 988 MW of new solar capacities. It also added a total new capacity of 233 MW of wind energy. Going beyond renewables, during the same period, India also added 414 MW of new thermal capacities and 18 MW of new large hydro capacities. During the same period, India also witnessed a minor addition of 1.16 MW of Waste-To-Energy capacities while it reported no new addition of capacities in biomass and cogeneration. The data said that during January 2024, the country added 1230 MW of total renewable capacities (excluding large hydro).
