India’s Solar Capacity Crosses 75 GW, Says Latest CEA Report By Manish Kumar/ Updated On Thu, Mar 14th, 2024 Highlights : The data from the government entity said that in the initial two months of 2024, India added a total of 2,257 MW of solar power. India's Solar Capacity Crosses 75 GW, Says Latest CEA Report The latest data on renewable energy capacity additions released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) said that India’s total installed capacity of solar power crossed 75 GW. The data from the government entity said that in the initial two months of 2024, India added a total of 2,257 MW of solar power. The additions are in line with expectations for the Jan-Marcg quarter, when installations usually peak. Industry experts expect March to see further additions that might even take the total to 4 GW for the quarter. However, despite that, the figures for FY 2023 may not be beaten, which would be a very dissappointing outcome for FY24. With the latest addition of solar energy capacities, India’s total installed capacity of solar touched 75,575 MW. On the other hand, India’s total installed capacity of wind energy touched 45,153 MW, the monthly reports from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) said. With the latest addition of solar and wind energy capacities in the first two months, India’s total renewable energy capacity (excluding hydro) touched 136,570 MW, the CEA reports indicated. In the initial two months, the country also added a total of 417 MW of new wind capacities. As per the latest data till February 2024, India has a total of 210,969 MW of coal capacities, 6620 MW of lignite and 25038 MW of capacities coming from gas. The total capacity of thermal energy now stands at 243.2 GW. On the other hand, the total capacity of nuclear power now stands at 7480 MW. The total capacity from hydro power not stands at 46,928 MW . The total capacity of non-fossil fuels (renewable plus hydro projects) now stand at 183,498 MW. On the other hand, India’s total energy capacity is 4,34,195 MW.
