Indian Railways to install Solar panels in all railway buildings across the nation: Suresh Prabhu

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday announced that the ministry is planning to install solar panels in all railways building across the country in near future. The solar plants would be set up at a cost of Rs. 8 crores and is expected to produce 14 lakh unit of power per year.

The Minister earlier laid the foundation stone of one Megawatt solar power plant at the Amritsar Railway Station. Speaking on the occasion, Prabhu said that this plant will save Rs.1.40 crore for the railways. He further added that union government is focusing to produce solar energy from waste materials that would reduce the expenditure of the Railways on electricity, thus providing maximum facilities to the passengers during travel.

Indian Railways has successfully tested trains at the speed of 180 kilometers per hour and now gearing up to start high speed train between Amritsar and New Delhi said Prabhu to ANI.
