Green Stocks January 20- Mixed Day for Green Stocks As Trump Impact Looms

Green energy stocks had a mixed day today as the market looks for cues from the incoming Trump administration. While everyone is hopeful that the new President will continue to blow hot and cold but look for ‘deals’ eventually, worries on India’s solar exports do not seem to be top of the mind, going by the smart recovery in module makers Premier Energies and Waaree Energies. While the former is more domestically focused and rose strongly, Waaree Energies saw a relatively muted jump. The developer trio, Adani Green, NTPC Green, and Acme Solar all fell today, but more because they lack a trigger for sharp jumps again than any other issue. Adani Green of course will be keenly watched as the incoming Trump Administration could provide some serious relief and remove a serious stock overhang by its actions on the investigations launched into one of its deals in India.

We continue to be ambivalent on any serious budget impact on the sector, considering how hands-off the new Power Minister has been, mostly happy to be led by his officers. That seems to indicate good days ahead for module manufacturers at the very least, and perhaps some tightening for developers only in case prices in China rise for wafers.

Wind energy stocks Suzlon and Inox Wind, both of which have come off their highs from last month, continue to be well placed to grow in the near term (next 3 quarters), before the impact of any policy moves show up.
