Green Stocks Feb 27: No Respite As Slide Continues

The pressure on mid and small cos. was amply captured across most Green energy stocks, as most shed further points today. Acme Solar was the lone exception, and that too by not much.

A visit from the taxman at their offices proved to be especially costly for Waaree Energies and Waaree Renewable Technologies, as both lost over 2.5% and 4.5% respectively. For others like Premier Energies, Suzlon, or Inox Wind, it doesn’t even need the tax authorities for the stocks to suffer significant drops, yet again.

Large developers like NTPC Green, and Adani Green continued to cede value, for no other reason than a tun-in sentiment for now. Investors however can keep up hopes, as both firms have a full plate of projects to complete by March 31, and going beyond, by June 31, as our lead story captures today.

Firms with quality, experienced management will do well to put their head down and not dwell too much over their slipping stock prices, as markets will eventually reward performers in the sector handsomely.

However, the long line of firms that had firmed up plans to tap the public markets will face a dilemma increasingly, as firms face the prospect of diluting much more equity than they foresaw to raise funding. For now, one can safely say that premiums of the sort commanded by firms as late as October 2024 may not be forthcoming anymore, or at least till the market makes a decisive shift. With February almost over and March promising to be a harvest of tax planning, don’t keep your hopes up for the remaining part of this financial year.
