Green Stocks Dec 23- Stocks Fail To Make Most Of Underlying Upmove

The market took a breather after the rise this week, but it was not enough to support many in the green pack. Shakti Pumps rose on the back of another order win announcement,  even as stories swirled around on the impact of higher-priced module inventory on solar pump makers.  The claim is that this has impacted margins negatively. We will soon know if the margin compression has carried on to Q3 as well.    

Most of the rest in the green pack ceded ground or failed to hold on to gains from the morning, as the markets continued to struggle to break out decisively. 

Investors will be hoping for a final hurrah this year to dress up year-end numbers, perhaps for mutual funds and stocks alike, but the prolonged weakness in the mid-cap and small-cap space has surely impacted retail participation. 

At a broader level, lower costs from GST changes would have helped many green proposals, of course, but not as decisively as many hoped for, as there was no reversal of the gradual wind-down of the ISTS charges, now down to 75% exemption. 

Lagging growth in cell manufacturing capacity, besides the final judgment on the vexatious Great Indian Bustard issue, will surely help improve sentiments for the larger players among both developers and manufacturers who have adequate cell capacity.
