India Witnesses Its First Solar Car Rally, RE-Powered Cars Cover 100 Kms In Single Charge

In a show of innovation, the Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers (ISIE India) recently organised India’s first solar car rally at Galgotia University in Greater Noida, where different models of solar cars participated, witnessing participation from across the country. The organisers said that the solar-powered cars covered more than 100 kilometers with a single charge.

The event was organised with a partnership of ISIE India and Galgotia University in Greater Noida and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) of the Indian government.

The event was organised as a part of ISIE-Electric Solar Vehicle Championship. The solar vehicles in this competition covered a distance of more than 350 kilometers in three days. Under the event, these innovative vehicles run on renewable energy went from Galgotia University in Greater Noida to Mathura and returned. The organisers said that more than 1,500 students from different engineering colleges from 18 Indian states participated in the event.

Vinod Gupta, Founder & President – ISIE-India, said that the outcome of the event was overwhelming as students from around 18 states participated. The event, he said, helped in creating awareness on Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption, upskilling and road safety.

Dhruv Galgotia, CEO – Galgotias University, said, “It is a pleasure to host 1500+ engineering students from top universities of India at our university. These are the future engineers and entrepreneurs of India. The event is an innovative approach for learning and skill development.”

During their on-the-road trials, these solar cars traveled from Galgotias University to Jewar. At Jewar, all the vehicles were inspected at the checkpoints along with the driver safety. After the checkpoint, they traveled back to Galgotias University. They have covered a distance of 100+ KM in a single charge in the rally without a failure, the organisers said.

The event was supported by sponsors and partners, including National Skill Development Corporation, Michelin India, Altair Engineering, Raw Pressery, EaseMyTrip, E Fill Electric, JS Design, Skill Reporter, Mobility Outlook, E Vehicle Info, Edgo Carts, and Junofast.
