India Adds 14.9 GW Of New RE Capacities In 8 Months Of FY25 The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) today published the latest data on new renewable energy capacity additions. The data revealed that the country added a total of 14.9 GW of new renewable energy capacities (excluding hydro) in the current financial year (till November 2024). According to the report, India’s solar energy capacity has surpassed 94 GW, while its wind energy capacity has reached 47.95 GW. With these additions, India’s total renewable energy capacity now stands at 158.55 GW. Installations in November The MNRE data highlighted that in November 2024 alone, the country added 2 GW of solar power and 242 MW of wind power. Additionally, 7.25 MW of waste-to-energy plants and 7 MW of small hydro projects were commissioned during this period. In total, the country added 2.3 GW of new renewable energy capacities in November 2024. Higher Installations Compared to FY24 A year-on-year comparison of renewable capacity additions for the first eight months of the financial year showed significant growth in FY25. In the initial eight months of FY24 (2023-24), India had added 10.94 GW of new renewable energy capacities. In contrast, during the same period in FY25 (2024-25), India added 14.9 GW, marking a 37% increase in installations. Solar Energy Growth During the first eight months of FY24, India added 9.5 GW of new solar capacities. This figure rose to 12.35 GW during the same period in FY25, representing a 30% increase in solar installations. Wind Energy Growth In the initial eight months of FY24, India added 1.32 GW of wind energy capacity. This increased to 2 GW in FY25, reflecting a 51% rise in wind energy installations. This robust growth across renewable energy segments underscores India’s commitment to accelerating its transition to clean energy.
