India Added 9.9 GW of Solar Installation in First Eight Months of CY-22 By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Fri, Sep 23rd, 2022 Highlights : India increased its solar PV capacity by over 9.9 GW in the first 8 months of CY-22. In comparison to the same period of last year, it’s a 22.2% year-over-year growth. In the first 8 months of CY-21, India added 8147.27 MW. On August -22, India added 1328.92 MW of solar. In comparison to the July of 2022, it’s a 79.82% growth. On July 22, India added only 268.06 MW of solar. India increased its solar PV capacity by over 9.9 GW in the first 8 months of CY-22. In comparison to the same period of last year, it’s a 22.2% y-o-y growth. In the first 8 months of CY-21, India added 8147.27 MW. In August -22, India added 1328.92 MW of solar. In comparison to the July of 2022, it’s a 79.8 % growth. In July 22, India had added only 268.06 MW of solar. However, in August of CY-21, India added 1671.79 MW of solar. So here we see a Y-o-Y decline of almost 20%. Solar Capacity Additions Continue to Slow Down, July 2022 Records Barely 270 MW Also Read Even though India will miss its 100 GW solar target of 2022 by miles, these rising numbers are a positive sign. One of the primary reasons for India missing its target is when this target was set, no one imagined the impact of geopolitics and COVID-19. Ember, a global think-tank, in its recent analytical report revealed that by August 2022, India has reached two-thirds of its 175 GW renewable energy goal for the year. Gujarat achieved this goal alongside Telangana, Rajasthan, and Karnataka. The majority of the shortage is made up of four states: Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. State Solar (MW) Rajasthan 4816.51 Gujarat 1766.27 Tamil Nadu 1000.07 Telangana 451.62 Karnataka 247.175 India Added 1.9GW Of RE Open Access Capacity In FY22 Also Read Rajasthan is leading the table in terms of solar power generation. Rajasthan added 4816.51 MW in the first eight months of CY-22 followed by Gujarat added 1766.27 MW, Tamil Nadu added 1000.07 MW, and Telangana added 451.62 MW of solar capacity. If we see the renewable energy targets of Indian states & compare them with how much they have achieved then we will find that only Rajasthan, Telangana, Karnataka, Gujarat & Andaman-Nicobar have been able to exceed their set targets. Rajasthan Set Target: 14362 MW Achieved Target: 19512.23 MW Telangana Set Target: 2000 MW Achieved Target: 5068.81 MW Karnataka Set Target: 14817 MW Achieved Target: 16212.02 MW Gujarat Set Target: 17133 MW Achieved Target: 17910.62 MW Andman-Nikobar Set Target: 27 MW Achieved Target: 35.16 MW Apart from this, there are some following major solar projects commissioned in August: NTPC commissioned the enterprise’s first part (10 MW) of the 20 MW Solar PV Project in Gandhar, Gujarat has achieved completion. Oriano Solar commissioned solar projects under the C&I Segment in Chhattisgarh. The project’s first phase, with a capacity of 70 MWp, was put into service on August 6, 2022, and its overall capacity is 172 MWp. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Hi-Tech Manufacturing, and Services commissioned a Green Hydrogen Plant at its AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat. Rays Power Infra commissioned a 150 MW solar plant (grid-connected) in Raichur and Koppal, Karnataka. Godawari Power and Ispat Limited (GPIL) announced that its 70 MWp (megawatt-peak) captive solar photovoltaic power plant at Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh is now commercially operational. Tata Power Green Energy Limited (TPGEL) commissioned a 225MW Hybrid power project in Rajasthan under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 25 years to fulfill its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO).
