IIT Roorkee, TERI Join Hands on Research of Thematic Areas of Energy By Manu Tayal/ Updated On Mon, Apr 22nd, 2019 As per the agreement signed, both IIT Roorkee and TERI will collaborate in the areas of mutual interest with special focus on the thematic areas of energy, renewable energy, water management, climate change, food, environment, sustainable habitat and sustainable transport. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Asia’s oldest technical institution, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an energy and environment think tank – The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). As per the agreement signed, both IIT Roorkee and TERI will collaborate in the areas of mutual interest with special focus on the thematic areas of energy, renewable energy, water management, climate change, food, environment, sustainable habitat and sustainable transport. Further, the MoU was signed by Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General of TERI and Prof AK Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee. Commenting on the MoU signed, IIT Roorkee, Director, Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said, “We are delighted to tie up with TERI. The partnership with TERI will facilitate increased usage of the intellectual resources of IITR i.e. its faculty and students, for addressing energy and sustainability related challenges faced by developing countries, in general, and India, in particular.” Besides, the move will also facilitate capacity building activities and joint events focusing on public policy and public action in the areas of energy transition, energy access, energy efficiency, renewable energy, green buildings, sustainable cities, sustainable transport, air quality, sustainable land use, waste management, climate science & policy, resource efficiency and security. Speaking about the collaboration Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General of TERI said, “It is a matter of pride that TERI is further strengthening its ties with IIT Roorkee as both the institutions enter into a MoU. This formal arrangement would help leverage respective strengths to further research and academic collaborations given natural synergies in the areas of energy, environment, and natural resources.” IIT Roorkee is an institute of national importance imparting higher education in engineering, sciences, management, architecture and planning, and humanities and social sciences. Since its establishment in 1847, the institute has played a vital role in providing technical manpower and know-how to the country. Meanwhile, in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019, IIT Roorkee has been ranked 3rd among the IITs.
